Senior Academy Physiotherapist – Fulham Football Club – New Malden

Job Description
Programme Responsibilities
– To be the lead medical professional for the pro phase.
– Deliver individual physiotherapy treatment and return to play plans for injured academy players.
– Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to return injured players back to full fitness including gym-based rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, on-field functional technical sessions and aerobic / anaerobic conditioning.
– Ensure the provision of medical cover for training and match day fixtures within PDP squads.
– In liaison with the HoP and Lead Physiotherapist, manage, design, and implement medical, orthopaedic and movement screening programmes for Pro Phase Academy players.
– Coordinate the collation, analysis, and feedback of relevant medical information to the appropriate Club staff for Pro Phase Academy players. This is to include updates on injured players, rehabilitation programmes, return to train/play dates and injury audits (but must respect and abide by medical confidentiality laws)
– Ensure all medical notes and records are up to date, stored in line with GDPR rules and industry best practice.
– Meet regularly with medical and coach phase leads to update and discuss players and management.
– Provide emergency care assessment, recommendation & referral to appropriate medical professional for injury / illness.
– Assist the Lead Physiotherapist with the external medical management of players requiring consultations/referral.
– Accompany Pro Phase Academy players and where necessary, players from other age groups to external appointments (MRI’s, consultant, cardiac etc.).
– Be the central contact for Pro Phase academy players and parents for any long-term injury assessment or management.
– Build effective working relationships with players to support buy-in and a collaborative view of performance development.
– Maintain professional patient clinician relationships.
– Support the development of an environment that cultivates challenges and fosters growth and progression.
– Manage the assessment process and report on trialists to support recruitment decision making.
– Ensure policies and procedures relating to Safe to Operate, Duty of Care and League Rule Compliance are adhered to and maintained constantly.

Wider Club Responsibilities
– Drive improvements in inter-disciplinary working between the Sport Science and Medical department and all other academy department on a continuous basis.
– Collaborate within the SSM team as well as the wider multi-disciplinary team to continually seek evidence and good explanations to justify training practices.
– Attend relevant weekly inter-disciplinary phase meetings.
– Liaise with first team medical staff and management (if required) on player availability/status/injury updates.

Professional Development
– Undertake continued professional development to ensure all mandatory qualifications are up to date, as well as ensuring a clear understanding of industry best practice.
– Continue to drive best practice, professional development, and critical thinking within the department, aiding in the CPD of junior members of staff.
– Assist the HoP and Lead Physiotherapist with the recruitment of physiotherapy work placement students and full-time, part-time physiotherapists.
– Support where required at Academy events, including but not only, induction events, parent workshops, academy games.
– Attend, where possible, all club and departmental CPD events.

Essential Skills, Qualifications & Experience
– Hold an BSc in Physiotherapy
– Hold appropriate and up to date qualifications to conform with League, EPPP and Club rules including ATMMIF/ CSP/HCPC.
– Knowledge of regulations in relation to working with children with particular reference to Child Safeguarding.
– Excellent clinical reasoning skills.
– A minimum of 5 years’ experience of injury diagnosis, treatment, and prevention strategies within a sporting environment.
– Excellent understanding and delivery of rehabilitation and return to play protocols in elite youth athletes.
– Ability to lead group sessions and deliver gym and pitch-based programmes to groups and individuals.
– Experience working in elite youth sport.
– Experience of using data & medical management systems to ensure the secure and efficient storage of data & confidential information.
– Good understanding of paediatric injuries and management.
