Assistant Editor – Digital – Castle Media – Hammersmith, London

Further information

Build It magazine is looking for an Assistant Editor with strong digital writing skills to work on its flagship website, Self-Build.co.uk, and other platforms. Our flourishing website has enjoyed strong growth over the past two years, so this is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to start their career in digital journalism as part of an innovative and expanding team.

Build It is a monthly consumer magazine aimed at people self building or renovating their own homes. You will produce news and feature content, blog, upload archive material and monitor User interactions, ensuring that the site remains fresh and meets targets for traffic, pageviews and engagement. You will also assist the Editor in developing the magazine’s digital presence.

The role will involve some crossover with the printed magazine (particularly with Q&As, cross-platform features and supplements) and you will also have the opportunity to support the team’s awards scheme and live exhibitions.

The right candidate will ideally have an understanding of social media and SEO issues, along with an appreciation of photo, video and graphical journalism and how they can be used to develop a website. They will possess excellent fundamental editorial skills (writing, picture research, editing, sub-editing and proofing) and should have a strong interest in the housing, DIY, architecture and design sectors.

Experience with Photoshop and online content management systems would be an advantage, as would familiarity with InDesign.
