Strategic Manager – Barnet Partnership for School Sport

Job Description
The Barnet Partnership for School Sport is looking to appoint a full time, Strategic Manager, to manage and develop the successful PE, School Sport and Physical Activity programme offered to all Barnet schools.

The post holder will need to have an excellent understanding of schools, the Government’s agenda for sport and competition (School Games) along with a clear vision and commitment to increasing participation in sport for children and young people. Some knowledge of Barnet will be preferable.

The post holder will be responsible for the management of the Barnet Partnership for School Sport (BPSS) and its team of dynamic School Games Organisers.

The Barnet Partnership for School Sport is a membership organisation that was established as a mechanism to retain the outcomes achieved by the previous 4 School Sport Partnerships in Barnet. The BPSS, into its sixth year, engages over 100 Barnet schools providing events, competitions, engagement programmes and leadership opportunities, with a generic outcome of increasing participation in school sport at all levels.

1. Context and Purpose of the Job

The Strategic Manage is a full time post based at Queen Elizabeth’s Girls School, whose key purpose is to lead, manage and develop the successful PE, School Sport and Physical Activity programme offered to all Barnet schools through the Barnet Partnership for School Sport (BPSS).

The post holder will:
• Effectively manage, implement, monitor and evaluate the Barnet Partnership for School Sport’s Development Plan
• Manage the finances of the BPSS efficiently and effectively
• Provide reports to the Board and members on impact and agreed outcomes
• Ensure that all children and young people in the BPSS member schools are included in school sport and competition opportunities
• Develop and formalise links with other sport and physical activity related partners and agencies to ensure that the work of the BPSS is sustainable
• Successfully pursue external funding streams to ensure the long term success of the BPSS.

2. Main Responsibilities and Tasks
• Work and communicate effectively with schools to meet need and fulfil expectations related to participation in sport and physical activity
• Provide support and advice to maximise opportunities for Barnet through the Government’s agenda for school sport and competition (School Games Programme)
• Provide a centralised structure for Borough competitions, festivals and leagues
• Manage and coordinate leadership and regional volunteering opportunities
• Provide guidance, advice and support on the engagement and deployment of the services of external coaches and companies
• Provide data analysis tools to enable schools to be able to demonstrate impact and progress in terms of participation in a physically active lifestyle
• Review and interpret that data to facilitate a solutions based and appropriate approach with schools to increase participation
• Maximise large scale events i.e 2012 Olympic and Paralympic opportunities for schools
• To establish mechanisms for effective consultation with young people and key partners (including parents) to increase participation
• Line manage the team of School Games Organisers and PE and School Sport Apprentices
• Lead on the implementation and training of primary and secondary PE networks
• Work in partnership with PE Departments and Subject Leaders for Physical Education to increase participation in school sport through a range of opportunities including leadership and volunteering
• To represent Barnet on both sub-regional and regional groups , pan London and national bodies co-ordinating the wider school sport and health related agenda
• To lead on the Borough’s Satellite Club delivery programme
• To work with host school (Queen Elizabeth’s Girls School) to develop and deliver the Girls Active and Health and Wellbeing Programmes
• To work with the Board to safeguard the future of the BPSS, taking into account any new government initiatives
• To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post, including the delivery and co-ordination of events and competitions
