Job Description
Newcastle Falcons are looking to appoint a full-time experienced physiotherapist to lead the medical provision for their highly successful academy programme.
The successful applicant will be responsible for planning, delivering and reviewing all aspects of senior and junior academy medical care in conjunction with established Medical, Performance and Coaching teams. The main focus will be placed on injury prevention, assessment and effective rehabilitation. An excellent work ethic, organisational and communication skills are also essential. With the ability to act in a professional, accountable and legally responsible manner at all times both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Salary: In the region of £25,000 (dependant on previous experience)

Essential Requirements;
– BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy
– CSP and HCPC registration
– Minimum 2 years working within professional sport
– Flexibility to work unsociable hours, including evenings and weekends
– Commitment to continued professional development in line with CSP and HCPC standards
– Enhanced DBS clearance and a full driving license with access to a car/transport

Desirable Requirements;
– Knowledge and experience working within the unique demands of Rugby union.
– MSc Physiotherapy or Sports Medicine
– RFU PHICIS level 3 (or equivalent) sports trauma qualification
– Previous roles working with Children and Young adults.
– Exposure to providing current injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.

Job Responsibilities will include;
– Senior Academy Squad medical provision including: acute injury assessment and management, player screening and injury prevention interventions, long term injury rehabilitation programs, maintenance treatments and assessments
– Provide pitch side cover for all A-Team fixtures and Academy when required.
– Assist Junior Academy Physiotherapist with evening training cover and injury clinics.
– Accompany players to off-site medical appointments as needed.
– Compliance with qualitative note-keeping standards in accordance to the Rugby Squad Medical best practice guide.
– Timely referral of injuries to Lead Doctor for further assessment, investigation and management.
– Weekly Injury update meetings with MDT – including medical, S&C and rugby departments.
– Regular communication with National, University and Dual registered club medical and coaching staff.
– Appraise and support Junior Academy Physiotherapist and part-time staff or students as required.
– Undertake regular screening analysis of non-injured players and input applicable individual areas for improvement to reduce injury risk.
– Provide pitch side medical cover to the Associate Academy group at monthly sessions, educating players where appropriate on injury prevention and management.
– Assisting with occasional First XV medical duties, as agreed with Head Physiotherapist.
– Partake and present in regular in-service CPD within the medical and S&C department.
– Educate academy schools and parents about medical topics relevant to their age group.
