England 7s Team Doctor – Rugby Football Union

Job Description
The Rugby Football Union is looking to engage a 0.4 FTE (2 days a week) consultant team doctor to provide personal Sports Medicine services to the England Men’s 7s programme through the delivery of twice weekly clinics (Monday and Thursday am) at the Lensbury club and telephone advice at other times*.

The post holder will work closely with the full-time Men’s 7’s programme physiotherapists to deliver a comprehensive Sports Medicine service that is integrated with the Sports Science service.

The post holder will assist in the planning of tournament/competition medical support that will include the World Rugby Sevens World Series, the Commonwealth games (Gold Coast March 2018) and the Sevens World Cup (San Francisco August 2018) and other invitational and domestic tournaments.

The post holder is not normally expected to travel with the 7’s team during competitions but will be available for telephone support.

The successful candidate will pride themselves on a reputation for clinical excellence in the field of sports medicine. Excellent communication and relationship building skills as a team member and in relationships with club and academy medical teams is essential. The role holder must have confidence in their own professional ability with the ability to demonstrate this in an assertive but non-threatening manner. The candidate must have a strong commitment to continuing professional development.

The role holder will have experience of self-directed work and working as part of a multidisciplinary team in high performance sport. They will have substantial part-time or full time experience within elite level sport, preferably rugby, as a team doctor.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Diploma or MSc in Sport and Exercise Medicine.

Entry to the GMC Specialist Register for Sport and Exercise Medicine, Fellowship of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine and training and competency in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound are preferred.
