Inside Housing, one of the UK’s top business magazines, is searching for a talented reporter to join its award-winning news team. The politics around housing, welfare reform and the growing poverty gap are dominating the national news agenda so this is a great opportunity for a news hound with a keen interest in politics and social affairs to make a name for themselves.

We are looking for a tenacious, creative journalist to ensure we continue to beat the competition and national newspapers and newswires to the biggest off-diary housing and social policy stories in a fast-moving sector.

The successful candidate will be able to build and maintain a broad network of contacts and to become an expert who knows their patch inside out.  Applicants will be at ease meeting senior sector figures and local and national policy makers, and gaining their trust.

Inside Housing operates a web first policy and puts a strong emphasis on analysis and reader engagement online, as well as innovation. The successful candidate will be comfortable producing authoritative analysis, gathering stories and engaging with readers through blogs and Twitter. Data journalism skills will also be beneficial.

The reporter will break stories online daily, and write news and features in the magazine on a weekly basis. In addition, they will be expected carry out major investigations and interviews with leading figures. We are therefore looking for a journalist able to produce excellent, accurate copy and with a flair for producing interesting ideas and asking incisive questions.

Inside Housing reports on developments in the housing sector and a diverse range of associated topics stretching from parliamentary politics to ground-level problems such as homelessness and anti-social behaviour. This can mean writing about bank deals, the impact of benefit cuts and knife crime among gangs all in the same week. The successful applicant must therefore be able to demonstrate their ability to unearth eye-catching scoops, thrive under pressure and be keen to throw themselves in at the deep end.
