Reporter, The Grocer – William Reed Business Media – Crawley, West Sussex

The Grocer – the multi-award-winning media brand – is looking for a reporter or senior reporter who can scoop the competition (including the nationals) and write compellingly and authoritatively about all aspects of the hugely important, political and high-profile food and drink market.

You’ll be covering business and trade news from the leading supermarkets, discounters, convenience stores, wholesalers, as well as online retailers, delis, food to go, butchers, bakers, off licences, chocolatiers, food markets etc.

And the role offers enormous variety, with topics covered including consumer trends, pricing and promotions, online shopping, the economy, property & planning, supply chain, health and obesity, food safety, innovation, branding/advertising/marketing, financial performance, key people moves, sustainability, and more.

You’ll also get to sample plenty of tasty (and not so tasty) food and drink.

But while an interest in cooking/recipes/food is always welcomed, the emphasis really is on landing great stories, and providing comment, blogs, analysis, features and reports on the market, as well as profiles of important industry figures.

The ideal candidate will have:

A strong news sense and ideally experience in trade/business news journalism
The personality, curiosity, and intelligence to develop and work senior-level contacts
A strong work ethic and the ambition to succeed
Multi-media skills

The Grocer is one of the UK’s biggest, most influential and most interesting business media publications, the bible of the £180bn grocery retail market, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France and the US. We’re based in newly refurbished offices near Gatwick, with its fast connections to London, Brighton and the world (recent trips have included Italy, Thailand, Ireland, Singapore and New York).

The Grocer sets incredibly high standards, and is a fantastic breeding ground for talent and great journalism. It’s a high pressure environment, with daily and weekly deadlines, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a strong career path, a competitive salary, as well as company benefits comprising:

A contributory pension scheme
Life Assurance
25 days’ holiday
Discounted gym membership
Free car parking
Season ticket loan (on successful completion of probationary period)
We can also offer the right candidate flexible remote-working options.
