Part Time Technical Scout – Birmingham City Football Club

Job Description
Birmingham City Football Club has an exciting vacancy for a Technical Scout on a fixed term contract until May 2017.

Scope of duties:
• To manage and keep up to date the monitoring, tracking, reporting and recommendation procedures for players as directed by the departmental manager.
• To ensure player reports cover all dimensions of performance and potential, Technical, Physical, Psychological and Social. Monitor these reports and keep key staff updated.
• Contribute to the player auditing procedures implemented by the Department.
• To scout personally and play a full role in identifying and recruiting players.
• Ensure contact networks are built, extended and serviced regularly in conjunction with the department manager.
• Work within deadlines agreed with the Club.
• Any other Scouting requirements as directed by the department manager and management team.
• Technical Scouts will need to be self-motivated and be able to work on a list of opposition and/or player targets both from live scouting and DVD based work. They will also be expected to work with, and understand, the key elements of the Club’s talent identification and recruitment areas, including statistical player data, match analysis and coaching (among others).
• Technical Scouts will need to be able to provide an effective assessment of player targets and produce concise reports on them in the manner required by the Club from time-to-time.
• Previous experience of working effectively within a team environment is essential. Technical Scouts will be required to manage working relationships with both scouts and other key individuals within the Club.
• Develop and maintain a systematic database for key English based players on a National basis.
• Video observation of identified targets and recommendations to Key Targets Scout.
• Support with live observation of Key Domestic Target players.
• Develop a comprehensive knowledge of Emerging Talent with the UK.
• Maintain and manage the communication pathway between Academy and Senior scouting structures.
• Includes one full day based at TG working on video based scouting, database collation and a specific key focus of Talent Id observation.
• Responsibilities remain interchangeable. All scouts will maintain an Emerging Talent focus, remain up to date with the Team and Division heartbeat and support other staff with their ‘lead’ responsibilities.
• All scouts will be given a foreign league to specialise in with weekly observation of a specific country’s weekly roundup.
• Ensure compliance with all the Policies and Procedures contained within the Staff Handbook, paying particular regard to the Equal Opportunities Policy and Health & Safety Policy and procedures at all times.
• Any other duties as deemed necessary by your Line Manager or Head of Department.

Essential
• Must have an extensive knowledge and experience of the football industry and rules and regulations governing players and recruitment;
• Meticulous attention to detail;
• Good interpersonal skills – must be a consistent team performer;
• Good network of contacts;
• Ability to prioritise workload;
• Able to travel independently throughout the world;
• Excellent IT Skills and familiarity with scouting databases;
• Excellent organisational qualities;
• Self-motivated with the ability to manage and prioritise your workload;
• Ability to work to tight deadlines. The nature of the business means that there are significant variations in the level of activity; this requires the Job Holder to work whatever hours are needed to allow deadlines to be met;
• Identifiable track record in Scouting and recruitment.

Desirable
• Experience of coaching is desirable but not essential
