Chief Medical Officer – British Equestrian Federation

Job Description
The BEF, World Class Programme is seeking to recruit a Chief Medical Officer, or a Chief Medical Officer and Medical Officer depending on the nature of the applications received, to provide high quality medical support to all World Class Programme (WCP) athletes across three Olympic and one Paralympic discipline. This includes approximately 55-65 athletes in total and will involve a time commitment in the region of 50 days a year.

The successful candidate(s) will be required to:
Deliver high quality medical care to athletes on the BEF World Class Programme and Team GBR riders representing Great Britain at Senior European, World Championships and Olympic/Paralympic Games
Ensure effective communication with athletes GP’s and any specialist medical providers, and coordinate treatment plans and referral’s to all other medical specialists as appropriate
Work collaboratively with BEF’s HSSM practitioners in matters of injury prevention and rehabilitation, to ensure optimal medical care is provided to all WCP athletes
Proactively contribute to the development, maintenance, and alignment of medical services to the BEF ‘What it Takes to win’ (WITTW) model
Co-ordinate the WCP medical resources, such as equipment, and input to the development of medical operational plans to provide optimal care to athletes
Provide support and guidance to the HoPS and Performance Director (PD), Performance Managers (PM’s), Discipline Coordinators (DC’s) on medical matters relating to the WCP as required

Qualifications and Experience:
Essential
MFSEM(UK) or FFSEM(UK) in sport and exercise medicine
Full registration and in good standing with the General Medical Council
Annual appraisal through designated body or suitable person in line with GMC guidelines
Membership of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FSEM UK)
Training and experience in general practice and minimum one year professional or elite Sport experience
Desirable

On the GMC Specialist Register for Sport and Exercise Medicine preferred
Training and experience in general practice
Training and competency in the use of musculoskeletal ultrasound preferred (meeting BSR and FSEM guidelines)
