Project Manager – Manchester – Active Communities Network

Job Description

DESCRIPTION
This post is responsible for driving Active Communities Network’s programming across Greater Manchester with an emphasis on building on our projects in East Manchester (Miles Platting, Newton Heath, Bradford, Ancoats and Clayton). Whilst the post holder will have day to day management of the existing delivery profile there is an expectation to work with partners and other stakeholders to develop new opportunities across the wider metropolitan area of Greater Manchester, to grow the charity as well as work on embedding sustainable pathways within existing work.

DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
– To oversee all sports and youth work delivery across Greater Manchester ensuring projects are delivering to a high quality. This also includes developing progression routes for young people through accredited training and work placements.

– Work with the National Programme Manager to ensure the programme is delivering a high quality package which meets funders and partners expectations.
Ensuring the ACN monitoring system is updated consistently and in a timely manner and key performance indicators are being delivered.

– Build on our existing strategic partnerships across the area, with a focus on East Manchester in the first instance (SportCity, Eastlands Trust, other delivery providers).
– Prepare and execute funding reports to stakeholders such as the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, the Police and Crime Commissioner, Sport England and the Big Lottery Fund.
– Work with the Events and Communications team in London to develop a range of case studies and a series of events to promote the work of Active Communities Network.
– Working with the National Programme Manager secure circa £100,000 per annum of new funds to grow and sustain our portfolio of projects.
– Ensure compliance with ACN policies in relation to health and safety, equal opportunities, and working with volunteers and young people.
– Oversee and manage the North West regional office.
Manage the workloads of part time/sessional staff, ensuring funds and resources are deployed effectively.
– Carry out all administrative tasks relating to the sessional team including provision of paperwork, monitoring and filing debriefs, reviewing and authorising time-sheets.
– Undertake regular supervision of all part-time / sessional workers and support them in their personal development.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
– Work flexibly where appropriate on evenings and weekends.
Occasional travel to London.
– Undertake any other related responsibilities commensurate with the evolving objectives of the post and the evolution of ACN.
Work with due regard for ACN core values and objectives.
– Ensure the effective implementation of, and adherence of ACNs Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies and procedures.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
– Minimum five years’ experience of managing and co-ordinating sports or youth work programmes across multiple sites.
– Comprehensive knowledge of Greater Manchester (especially East Manchester) in relation to social issues and challenges faced by young people and communities.
– Comprehensive understanding of the sport for development and youth work sectors in the UK and Greater Manchester context.
Knowledge and understanding of training and development pathways in a sport, youth and community context.
– Good knowledge of, and the ability to implement relevant health and safety and safeguarding policies and processes.
– High level of understanding and experience of processes relating to project monitoring and evaluation.
– Knowledge and understanding of how to manage information and demonstrate impact to funders, including the writing of project reports.
– Evidence a skills base in networking and building alliances/new partnerships with the voluntary and statutory sectors at a strategic and operational level.
– Evidence of the ability to generate funding through a variety of sources (such as corporate, third sector, grant agencies etc).
– Track record of growing and sustaining large and small scale projects from concept to implementation on a local and regional level
– Experience of effectively managing part time staff, sessional staff and volunteers.
