GB Taekwondo is responsible for the preparation and performance of Britain’s elite taekwondo athletes at major championships events including the Olympic Games. The GB Taekwondo Academy is based in Manchester where full time senior athletes train alongside our emerging talent on the National Lottery funded World Class Performance and Talent Development programmes.

Role summary:

The Performance Manager will work primarily within the areas of managing the service providers impact into World Class Performance Programme.

Working as part of the Performance Management team and reporting to the Performance Director.

The role will also :-

• Assist the Performance Director to carry out the actions listed in the 2016 world class performance programme mission plan.
• Ensure the sport science and medicine team understand and live the mission, vision and culture of GB Taekwondo.
• Ensure the performance team understand and respect the coach/athlete relationship, advising rather than leading to get the best out of the athletes. Help them to develop effective professional relationships between each other and be happy to take a back seat when necessary.
• Marginal gains—enhance the performance of the world class performance programme through marginal gains strategies.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Appraisals :
• Ensure these are carried out and action plans followed and reviewed. Participate in EIS appraisals.
• Ensure the team understand and stick to their roles and boundaries adding value to athletes and coaches.
• Ensure team members and performance department have KPI’s to check the service is giving value for money whilst giving the best possible service in line with GBT’s mission.
• Ensure team working is developed which is task focused not relationship focused.
• Ensure that each team member is developing their own headship skills so that they can make empowered decisions in line with GBT’s mission and vision.
• Recommend and chair creative working group meetings as necessary to enhance the World Class performance programme.
• Manage the induction process for new recruits.

Plans :

• Have detailed, individualised and useful plans for each podium athlete that is owned by the athlete and coach but inputted into by the relevant service providers.
• Within these plans ensure progress is tracked and monitored, with priority areas decided and targetted. Observe progression markers.
• Checking the right data is being recorded and monitored in a way that is user friendly and sustainable.
• Administer the Athlete Development meeting process to ensure it is productive.
• Ensure the right time and resources are allocated to the right athletes in line with the GBT mission.

IT and Information Management :

• Ensure all athlete progress is regularly monitored and measured through formal reports which are transparent and understood by all staff and athlete team members.
• Ensure that all athletes, coaches, science, medicine and support services are utilising the performance APP, whilst checking the system is used to enhance communication across the team.
• Review, propose and implement formal systems which can be utilised to standardise world class working procedures across the staff team.
• Ensure service providers have measurable progress targets with KPI’s which are specific, timed and measurable.

Talent :

• Link with the Development Programme pathway to ensure it is providing what is neede and focussing on the right areas in line with the World Class programme mission.

The post holder will be required to undertake continual professional development:

• An Introduction to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
• An Introduction to Safeguarding in Sport and Leisure
• Sportscoach UK Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop, and progressive CPD.
• First Aid training (may be required)
• Any other development and training deemed necessary in accordance with experience.
