Job Description
Badminton Scotland is the governing body for the sport in Scotland. Its role is to develop participation, memberships and performance, and accelerate the growth of the sport across the country. A key part of our strategy is to transform our Performance Programme to achieve success at both World and Commonwealth level.
Badminton Scotland has recently recruited a new Head Coach and a National Junior Performance Network Manager (NJPNM) and is now looking to appoint a Performance Coach to further strengthen the Performance Coaching team. The recent success for Scotland reaching the Uber Cup Finals and ongoing success of our top male players demonstrates the potential of the current squad. We are looking for an ambitious coach to further develop this potential and positively contribute to the establishment of our High Performance culture in Scotland.

The successful candidate will work under the leadership of the Head Coach and deliver coaching programmes primarily for the Senior National Squad Singles players from our training centre at Scotstoun National Badminton Centre They will also provide input to the development and implementation of programmes designed to grow the capacity and competence of individual players within the overall performance programme. They may also be required to support the NJPNM to deliver programmes to identify and develop potential high performing athletes through our Regional Performance Programme.
The successful candidate must have at least 3 years’ experience of working with performance athletes, including planning and delivering programmes within a High Performance environment. Crucially the role requires excellent interpersonal skills to provide effective feedback to the players and work closely with the wider coaching team and colleagues across Badminton Scotland staff. They will also have a strong commitment to creating a positive and supportive team culture within the athletes and coaches.
Knowledge and experience of the use of new performance analysis technologies would be an advantage.

ROLE PROFILE:
Key Outcomes
• To work under the leadership of the Head Coach and
deliver badminton coaching primarily to the Senior
National Squad Singles players.
• Provide input to the development and implementation of
programmes designed to grow the capacity and
competence of individual players within the framework
and vision of the overall performance programme
• Provide input and support in the delivery of the Regional
Performance Programme in conjunction with the National
Performance Network Manager in order identify and
develop potential high performing athletes
• To develop effective relationship with players and coaches
across the badminton community and within the local
authority and education network and particularly the
sportscotland institute of sport
• To ensure that the best interests of athletes are prioritised
at all times
• To assist with administration, monitoring and evaluation of
the programme.

• Deliver consistent and agreed standards of competence
amongst athletes at High Performance levels with
particular focus on potential at Commonwealth Games
and World level
• High quality training and coaching programmes that
enable athletes to develop their potential
• Effective and consistent oversight and feedback to
athletes and coaches
• Effective communication on standards and quality of
athlete to Head Coach
• Development of effective relationships with athletes
creating a culture or reassurance and safety
• Maintain and promote Badminton Scotland culture at all
times both within the High Performance programme and
generally across the organisation.

PERSON SPEC:
1 Qualifications
• Formal coaching credentials in the sport of Badminton,
ideally to at least UKCC Level 3 or equivalent, and can
prove an ongoing commitment to professional
development in the sport.
• Proven track record of working successfully with athletes
at international level.
2. Technical Expertise
• Minimum 3 years proven Badminton coaching experience
with players competing successfully at a High
Performance level.
• Minimum 3 years proven experience of developing
individual players’ High Performance plans, including
experience in monitoring progress against these plans
and amending as required.
• Demonstrable experience in the successful
implementation and oversight of the delivery of a High
Performance plan.
• Demonstrable experience in creating an effective and
inclusive environment for the development of talented
players and coaches.
• Demonstrable experience in the use of information
technology for administration, communication and
performance analysis/monitoring.
3. Knowledge and Understanding
• Demonstrates consistent current good practice in relation
to a sports Duty of Care for athletes.
• Understands the issues and policies in clean sport and
works to the highest degree of integrity in relation to this
issue.
• Is aware of current good practice in safeguarding in sport
and acts at all times within the regulatory framework.
• Understands and demonstrates individual responsibility in
complying with Health and Safety Policies.

• Communicates ideas clearly and persuasively; gains

decisions and recommendations.

programme.

8. Other Factors
• The position requires a willingness to work irregular and unsociable hours as required, involving work outside normal working hours with the ability to travel abroad with players to camps and teams involving overnight stays.
• Access to a form of transport that will permit the post-holder to meet the requirements of the post in full.
