London Cycle Sportive Volunteering – London – Access Sport CIO

Job Description
Access Sport is one of two Official Charity Sponsors for The Telegraph London Cycle Sportive powered by Maserati. On Sunday 26th June, over 1000 riders will be taking part in the race with many raising over £150 for Access Sport helping us to enhance the lives of children and young people through the power of sport.

Who we are:
Access Sport is a UK-based sports charity which develops community sports clubs in deprived communities through which to enhance the life prospects of disadvantaged children and young people.

We believe every child or young person should be able to access sport to enhance their life prospects. However, the number of children and young people engaged in sport in the UK today is in rapid decline, causing record levels of childhood obesity and marginalising the poor and vulnerable.

Last year we supported over 200 community sports clubs and, through them, over 12,000 disadvantaged young people.

As a Charity Beneficiary of the event, we are excited to host one of the feed stations along the route and also be present in the event village at Herne Hill to meet and congratulate the riders as they complete the race.

We are looking for volunteers to help us on the day, please see details below of the both volunteering opportunities…

Access Sport Feed Station – Box Hill

We are delighted to be hosting the feed station at Box Hill in the heart of the beautiful Surrey countryside and need lots of cheerful volunteers to help man the feed station and give our riders encouragement as they continue the race.

You will be helping by…
• Greeting riders as they stop for a break
• Distributing refreshments to the riders
• Representing Access Sport
• Helping with set-up/ pack down of the marquee and equipment
• Cheering our riders along!

Timings:
The shift at this feed station will begin at 9am and finish at 4pm. If you are able to arrive earlier/ finish later that would be fantastic – the more hands on deck, the better! Moreover, if you would like to help but cannot commit to the full shift, just let us know – we appreciate whatever help you can offer.

Herne Hill Event Village
The event village will be in the heart of Herne Hill Velodrome in Southwark, an iconic landmark in London’s Olympic history, and we are excited to have a strong presence here on the day.

There are lots of exciting ways for you to get involved in the event village, including…

• Handing out medals to the cyclists as they finish the race
• Assisting our BMX Coaches with the BMX activity in the event village between 11am-12:45pm
• Welcoming cyclists into our Access Sport tent and representing the charity in this tent
• General set-up and pack-down help

Timings:
We expect that we will need help between 10am – 5pm. If you are not able to commit to the whole day, that it is absolutely fine, we are more than happy to offer morning and afternoon shifts.

For both volunteering roles, we will be happy to reimburse any travelling expenses.
