Basketball England is the national governing body for the sport in England. Basketball is at a fascinating and exciting 0me in its development in England and the UK and is an activity that has a special appeal, yet to be fully unlocked in this country. It has a huge following in many countries and the organisation firmly believes that basketball has the potential to become a major sport and participation activity here in the UK. With the right approach, it can become one of the most dynamic and grass roots led sport in the country and deliver a significant social impact at a community level.

Basketball England is now seeking an Independent Chair to lead the Board and play a critical leadership role with the CEO, in order to take basketball through a major transformation and implement the highest standards of corporate governance and administration of the sport.

Key responsibilities and skills required:
• To provide leadership to the sport and to the Board, ensuring the effective management of governance and oversight processes,
whilst adopting a strategic approach to increasing basketball participation and seJng the direction of the organisation
• To understand the posi0on of the organisation in its markets and rela0onship with key stakeholders, partners and sponsors
• To act as a thought leader, profile generator and door opener for the sport in England and signal the increasing professionalisation
and commercialisation of the organisation
• To chair the Board meetings, get the best from its members and ensure that discussion focuses on the priorities that will transform the organisation and the sport
• Share Basketball England’s ambition to take the sport to a totally different level
Candidates for the position should be able to demonstrate experience of Board leadership, possess a customer led approach and a passion for sport. You will need to have the ability to develop and nurture rela0onships with various stakeholder groups and should act and take decisions in an open and transparent manner.
