Young Rider Development Officer – Welsh Cycling – West Wales

Job Description

To increase Welsh Cycling’s engagement with young people, the post holder will be a key member of our development team. To plan, deliver and evaluate a co-ordinated programme of high quality, systems based coaching that is progressive and reflective of the needs of young people. The programme should link school, community and club provision, mentoring coaches and volunteers in these settings, and aim to provide increased opportunities to attract, enthuse, and retain young people in cycling.

Specific Responsibilities
• Establishing and maintaining relationships with club coaches and other volunteers, working in youth focused community clubs and local schools, with a particular focus on delivering Go Ride in Wales
• Plan, deliver and evaluate progressive coaching sessions and activity programmes centred on the needs of young people, such as Go Ride Racing, club and school coaching sessions, and holiday cycling activities
• Identify, support and mentor teachers, coaches and volunteers and implementation of a continuing professional development programme
• Develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with all partners and community organisations
• Develop coaching resources for schools and clubs
• Carry out administrative duties, such as the Go-Ride accreditation process in Wales
• Expand our Go Ride programme into schools, promote and mentor teachers via our Cycling for Schools initiative
• Develop a cluster approach to Go Ride clubs, complementing the WC/BC Performance pathway
• Take positive steps to identify and overcome barriers to participation ensuring our programmes are reaching out to young people from all backgrounds
• Attend major events to promote and deliver cycling activities for young people

General
• Represent Welsh Cycling at meetings, as and when required
• Promote Welsh Cycling products and services to maximise uptake and income
• Provide information in a timely manner, in the required format, to facilitate the collation of management information
• Undertake any other tasks appropriate to this level of responsibility
• Be a positive role model, creating a challenging and fun environment in which to motivate and encourage young people to participate in cycling
• Work as part of a team and make a positive contribution to the achievements of team objectives
• Collaborate with other staff to develop policy and strategy via staff meetings and working groups

Continuing Professional Development
• Maintain current knowledge of Welsh Cycling programmes, policies and practices
• Maintain professional coaching knowledge and qualification and an awareness of cycling products and services

Additional Information
• As the post involves working with children and young people, the post holder will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check
• This post requires the post holder to regularly travel and work during evening and weekend periods
