Online Editor – Fixers – Winchester, Hampshire

Fixers, the successful campaign that helps young people make a difference on issues that are important to them, is looking for an Online Editor to generate and oversee content for the Fixers website, upholding quality of writing, visuals and navigation. The Editor is responsible for two Online Journalists, one in the north and one in the south – assigning stories and editing their work – and works closely with the Web Manager to create new areas for the website, contributing to discussions about website design, accessibility and navigation. Although mainly office-based, the Online Editor may be expected to visit young people, or other story subjects, to cover stories … and will be expected to take photographs and/or phone-shot video.

We need an experienced journalist with an intelligent, sympathetic approach, an economic easy writing style, who can work quickly to continuous deadlines and lead a small team, as well as inspiring all members of staff to make useful contributions to the website.

The Online Editor must be able to work easily with young people from all social and cultural backgrounds to sympathetically cover stories about their projects, and any related issue that might be of interest to the Fixers online audience. They will be expected to regard some evenings and weekends as part of their normal work pattern – because this is when young people are often available – and will be entitled to time off in lieu for any evening or weekend worked. Like all team members they may be asked to work in other disciplines when necessary, and to provide support or resources to other parts of Fixers.

Fixers is a project run by the Public Service Broadcasting Trust [PSBT] and is part-funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund.
