Deputy Editor – TCOLondon – London

Huck magazine is looking for a Deputy Editor to help cover the world of art, music, film, activism and counterculture for its growing audience in print and online. The Deputy Editor will assist Huck’s Editor in generating ideas, planning issues, commissioning stories, line editing and liaising with contributors. In addition to assisting in managing and editing the print magazine, you will also work with the News Editor and Head of Video Production on developing story ideas that have strong potential for the web or video. This is an opportunity to help shape one of the most exciting magazines for millennials in the world as it expands into books, events and film.

Essential skills

Be accurate and fast.
Have a voracious media diet.
Know how to craft strong features and engaging headlines.
Have a track record of storytelling experimentation and a good grasp of how to use photography, graphics, videos to strengthen a narrative.
Be passionate and deeply interested in the world of youth culture. We’re looking for someone who follows big stories and can spot opportunities to tell them in new ways through an art, youth or activism perspective.
Be eager to experiment with emerging platforms and keep a constant lookout for new trends and ideas.
Understand how to take a serious, important topic and make it accessible for readers.
Be eager to build on an existing network of freelance contributors.
Solid editing and proofreading skills.
A Bachelor’s Degree and experience in commissioning is preferred.
