Roadworker Apprentice – Dorset Council

What you will be doing
The minimum age for these positions is 18. You will be paid while you are at work and also while you are on specific training days. Holiday pay is also included. This is a full-time position that we hope will lead to a fast track progression within the organisation once the apprenticeship has been completed.
When not on specific training, the successful candidates will work as a Highway Operative within a highway maintenance or improvements gang. The type of work is wide ranging and will cover all our maintenance requirements as well as general civils works, building new highway improvements and works within our bridge construction and maintenance team.
Successful apprentices will join our highway maintenance / improvement teams based at one of our main depots at either Stalbridge, Charminster (Dorchester) or Ferndown.

Desired qualification
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s or equivalent, 2 of which must be Mathematics and English
This is a fixed term position where you will have an employment contract and job description which will be supplemented with an Apprentice Agreement for the duration of your Apprenticeship. This will enable you to spend 20% of your paid working time on learning and development activities relating to the Apprenticeship. Upon completion of the Apprenticeship the full terms of your employment will apply, and you will be expected to work to your job description 100% of the time.

Training to be provided
Successful applicants will secure a two-year apprentice contract starting September 2020. Successful candidates will complete specific training modules over the course of the programme.
