Lead Sport Scientist – Hibernian Football Club

Job Description
Hibernian Football Club are looking to recruit an experienced, committed, knowledgeable and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Lead Sports Scientist within the Football Club.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the strategic management and leadership of all aspects of the Sports Science plan, providing performance support to players and coaches across the Club’s football structure.

They will have experience working within a multi-disciplinary team and have a proven track record in working successfully within the high performance sport environment with a clear understanding of athletic development. They will possess a detailed and thorough knowledge of systems which ensure that players – across all levels of the player pathway- can fulfil their athletic potential.

Reporting in the first instance to the Head of Sports Medicine and Science they will be responsible ,as part of the senior management team in that area, for leading an integrated programme of performance support for all levels of the football club, consistent with the playing philosophy of the Head Coach.

The post-holder will have specific responsibility for managing and overseeing the design, planning and delivery of a cohesive and systematic provision of sports science/performance support across all aspects of the football operation at the club.

Working in conjunction with colleagues across the Performance Department you will work to ensure that players at all levels of the performance continuum are appropriately supported to optimise their performance in training and competition.

• QUALIFICATIONS and PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications
Essential:
• MSc in Sports and Exercise Science or related discipline.

Desirable:
• A football coaching qualification.
• BASES accreditation.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
o Experience of working in a senior role within a professional football club multidisciplinary team at Academy, Development or 1st team level.
o Experience of a leadership role that required athlete management with a detailed understanding of injury prevention and long-term player development.
o Experience of strategic planning with evidence of vision and imagination.
o Proven record of achieving outcomes in terms of individual player improvements in fitness and conditioning.
o Highly skilled in communicating complex data in terms that are easily understood by a wide range of audiences.
o Excellent coaching skills including the ability to adapt to the environment to motivate behavioural change and augment performance.
o Evidence of recent CPD and a comprehensive CPD portfolio.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):
• Knowledge of Football Sports and Medicine Science best practice.
• Knowledge of performance analysis techniques and programs.

Technology:
• Having a range of IT skills to a high level of competency.
• Knowledge of football specific software is desirable.
• A detailed knowledge of Sports Science specific software.

LOCATION
Hibernian Football Club Training Complex, East Mains, Ormiston, EH35 5NG

HOURS OF WORK
This is full time, permanent position. Working hours will be flexible to fulfil the roles and responsibilities of the post. Due to the nature of the post there will be a requirement for evening and weekend working.
