Chair – British Volleyball Federation – England

Job Description
The Chair will lead and run the board, ensuring the highest standards of probity and governance apply and that BVF business is conducted in accordance with its purpose as set out in its constitution and policies and with all legal and regulatory requirements.
The role:
• Lead and manage the Board and ensure that it retains the balance of skills and receives all the necessary information to enable it to operate effectively.
• Represent and champion the BVF by being its advocate and ambassador for the sport.
• Be the guardian of the reputation of the BVF and seek to ensure that it is regarded as a supportive, respected and trusted body.
• Ensure that the Board maintains the skills and expertise to deliver the organization’s objectives alongside the standards as set out in the Code for Sports Governance by UK Sport.

Essential skills:
• Excellent interpersonal, leadership and influencing skills to lead the Board and provide strategic leadership, chairmanship and negotiation. • Excellent communication skills driving effective teamwork and diplomacy with stakeholders at all levels.
• Ability to support, challenge and manage a relationship with the Board members.
• A strong demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
Required behavioural competencies and qualities:
• Knowledge of national and international sports governance and organisation
• Strategic perspective, vision and ability to work positively within a team
• Strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills and the ability to develop sustainable partnerships

• Willingness to be an ambassador for the organization and the sport

Main duties:
• Lead the development and delivery of the NSSF grant programmes as well as other funding streams with the development of athletes towards Olympic and Paralympic qualification
• Proactively commence the process for the next funding cycle with UK Sport and further develop a business plan for the next 10 years
• Maintain the company values and a positive culture across the organization and with partners and stakeholders.
• Build and maintain a strong working relationship with the Board and Home Nation Volleyball Associations
• Act between meetings to ensure the Board’s decisions are acted upon
• Lead the Board’s evaluation of its own performance and priorities
