Financial Controller – British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association – Bath

Job Description
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the newly merger British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association and lead the financial systems within the organisation. It is a critical role and part of the senior management team and will drive the financial and management reporting structures. Reporting to the CEO, the role is part time and can be flexible to fit around the candidate’s commitments. We are looking for a senior accountant who has an interest in sport.

Play a critical role within the BBSA senior leadership team, ensuring the provision of timely, accurate financial information which is considered alongside operational performance information to plan, prioritise and monitor the use of resources to maximise their impact
Lead the financial accounting and management accounting system for the organisation
Manage organisational cash flow and forecasting
Support the CEO and Performance Director’s (PD’s) to manage their budgets through effective management of the BBSA financial system
Provide the CEO, Board and UK Sport with appropriate financial reports as required

    Main tasks and activities:

Implement and manage SAGE financial management reporting system, providing management reports for CEO and PD’s as required
Present Board with quarterly finance reports
Complete and process all purchase orders as requested by CEO or PD’s and log all into the BBSA financial management system
Manage the working relationship with the external payroll advisors, ensuring all contractual targets are met
Manage the working relationship with the designated auditors and prepare accounts for audit
Manage the relationship with the bank to ensure the services and accounts provided are working effectively and are appropriate for the organisation
Prepare and submit information to statutory authorities including HMRC
Work closely with UK Sport to manage their investment and provide timely, accurate quarterly reports as requested
Create and manage foreign exchange policy to ensure that the organisation makes the most cost effective use of currency whilst travelling
Work with the CEO and PD’s to implement the finance and expenses policies across the organisation
Review the financial management needs of the organisation and propose new systems and processes to support these needs where appropriate

    Person specification

Candidates will be qualified accountants with significant post qualification experience.
Extensive experience of using the SAGE financial reporting system
Experience of managing financial systems for an organisation
Skills and knowledge to be able to develop existing (and implement new) financial systems to the benefit of the organisation
Up to date knowledge of accounting regulations.
Knowledge of board dynamics and experience of preparing reports for board level meetings
Experience of government and publicly funded bodies would be an advantage
Interest in sport and understanding of the needs of national governing bodies is beneficial but not critical
They will be individuals of considerable influencing skills and authority whose qualities include:

An excellent track record of achievement in their career to date and with a proven ability to deliver;
