Job Description

Stevenage Football Club is currently seeking to appoint an experienced Club Doctor to deliver medical care to its first team squad. The Club Doctor will report to the Football Secretary and work closely with the First Team Sports Therapist.

Duties will include, but are not limited to;

• Provision of emergency match day medical cover for players and officials during first team home matches.
• Assistance with diagnosis and treatment of injuries.
• Delivery of weekly clinical sessions for first team squad.
• Communication and reporting of medical statuses to the Management team.
• Medical and health screening of players.
• Incorporation of the latest evidence based clinical and scientific research into the highest level of care.
• Development and implementation of medical best practice policies and procedures, including the Emergency Action Plan(s).
• Undertaking CPD as prescribed by the The FA, The Football League and the Club.
• Understanding of and compliance with The FA Anti-Doping Regulations and the WADA List of Prohibited Substances & Methods.
• Maintenance of accurate and updated medical records of all diagnoses, injuries and treatments, whilst abiding to medical policies and legislation.
• Availability for telephone consultation(s).

The ideal candidate will have experience within the football industry, preferably at Football League level, and be fully conversant with the duties involved.

The successful applicant must hold a medical degree, preferably with a postgraduate Sport & Exercise Medicine qualification, and hold (or be working towards) the FA Advanced Resuscitation Certificate. The candidate must currently be registered with the GMC and a membership of MRCGP, MRCS or MRCP would be desirable. With excellent knowledge of sports exercise and medicine and strong clinical assessment skills, they will possess the ability to work discreetly under pressure and as part of a team.

The role requires flexibility on Saturdays, Tuesday evenings and public holidays for attendance at all first team home fixtures, i.e. 23 league games plus cup and friendly matches, and preferably a weekday morning clinic. It will be offered on a part-time basis and the salary will be commensurate with skills and experience. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check.
