Chief Reporter – The Grocer – William Reed Business Media

The Grocer is looking for a prolific, experienced and super-talented reporter to deliver regular scoops on the food and drink market.

You’ll be working on the UK’s biggest and most interesting business magazine (and its award-winning website). And your brief is simple. To land exclusive news stories (web first) on a regular basis and report compellingly on this fascinating, fast-changing and highly diverse market through blogs, analysis, features, reports, profiles, videos and other media.

There are opportunities to write about all sorts of topics: from consumer and shopper trends to supplier and trade negotiations (think: Brexit!); from pricing and promotions to health and obesity strategy; from property and planning to the future of the high street and the role of online shopping.

A strong track record in news, probably in trade journalism or business news, is essential. You’ll also need to be adaptable and numerate. And must have the personality, curiosity and intelligence to develop and work senior-level contacts.
As our most senior news reporter you will also be encouraged to mentor more junior reporters.

Finally, we’re looking for a journalist with multi-media skills, as you’ll be expected to file and edit stories for the web, use our CMS, and be able to exploit social media and other tools to maintain our award-winning and fast-growing multi-media presence (though training is also provided should you need support).

The Grocer is one of the UK’s biggest, most influential and most interesting business media publications, the bible of the £180bn grocery retail market, and the flagship title of the highly successful William Reed group, a fast-growing, family-owned publishing, events and market research business, whose interests include operations in the UK, France and the US. We’re based in newly refurbished offices near Gatwick, with its fast connections to London, Brighton and the world (recent trips have included Italy, Thailand, Ireland, Singapore and New York).
Tackling this hugely important, dynamic, fast-changing and high-profile market with passion and creativity, The Grocer sets incredibly high standards, and has won a number of awards in recent years. It’s a high pressure environment, with daily and weekly deadlines, but for the right candidate, it offers huge job satisfaction, a strong career path, a competitive salary, as well as company benefits comprising:

A contributory pension scheme
Life Assurance
25 days’ holiday
Discounted gym membership
Free car parking
Season ticket loan (on successful completion of probationary period)
