Broadcast Media Specialist – The Institution of Civil Engineers – Westminster, Greater London

Crossrail. The Forth Bridge.The Shard. Clifton Suspension Bridge. The Channel Tunnel.  Interest in civil engineering from TV companies and BBC development units has increased dramatically over the past few years. ICE’s global network of 86,000 members work at the heart of the often ground breaking and visually dramatic projects that would make great TV, and we need an expert in broadcast media to devise a strategy which taps into this network, and feeds these fascinating projects to UK broadcast media. This is an exciting opportunity to help raise awareness of the profession which shapes the world in which we live.

Duties and responsibilities

Develop an engagement plan to reach out to the civil engineering community; generating buy-in and encouraging regular project sharing
Develop an integrated communications plan to ensure all facets of the industry engage
Establish a project information sharing process and a “project bank” to house information
Build relationships with TV companies and development units to position ICE as the go-to organisation for engineering projects, and identify appropriate projects to feed in
Integrate the work into other industry engagement activity across the organisation
Identify opportunities for projects to feed into other media relations campaigns

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for this role will have a proven background in broadcast media, a thorough understanding of how things work and ideally a list of useful contacts to enable them to hit the ground running. They will also have some experience in devising and implementing communications plans, and strategies for engaging people and generating trust. Strong communication skills, confidence and organisation skills will be key to success in this role, combined with the ability to integrate quickly and work autonomously.

The role is an initial 3 month fixed term contract.
