Women’s Rugby Developmet Officer – Rugby Football Union – South East – Essex, Kent, Surrey / Sussex

Job Description

We have a full time permanent vacancy for a Women’s Rugby Development Officer in the South East (Essex, Kent, Surrey & Sussex). The Women’s Rugby Development Officer (WRDO) will provide expert local development support to the Delivery team and where needed, specific women’s teams and programmes. They will take the overall lead in helping to strengthen the capacity, membership and performance of these women’s teams within their clubs.

They will be expected to build strong and effective relationships with club volunteers, Rugby Development officers and constituent body representatives as well as strong external relationships to support the growth and development of women’s rugby, including regular opportunities for women and girls to play the game across the various educational institutions and club environments.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Through the Local Delivery team ensure that clubs are developing and implementing strategies to retain and reward existing volunteers, coaches and referees for the women’s game.
• Ensure they have a succession plan in place and support them in recruiting new players, volunteers, coaches and referees to their women’s teams.
• Work with the clubs and with other specialist RFU support to assess and maximise the current facility base in partnership with local clubs and to develop and implement plans to improve this and make it accessible to women.
• Assist Clubs to integrate women into to their management and governance, structures drawing them into the central administration of the club.
• Work with the RDO’s to ensure effective deployment of CRCs recourses to support the coaching of women and girls to attract and retain them to the game.
• Support women’s teams in developing and maximising relationships with their local community – with local businesses, media and any other agencies/individuals that may be able to support them in their further rugby development.
• Actively seek out opportunities to grow and extend the reach of the game in to women by supporting all touch and growth opportunities.
• Develop an in depth knowledge of clubs and constituent bodies to understand their strengths and areas for development and ensure this information is transmitted to the CB Planning, Funding & Reporting process.
• Support the clubs to develop and maximise relationships with, schools, colleges, universities and other local organisations to actively recruit new players.
• Produce succinct, relevant & agreed reports on progress against all key objectives in the job holder’s area of responsibility.

Experience of working in sports development, education or an associated and relevant field is essential along with a practical understanding of the local sporting landscape in England. Demonstrable experience of contributing to sport development and delivering local coaching provision along with experience of working with regional agencies in sport is also required.

The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated and able to work under their own direction to achieve stated objectives within the necessary timescales. They will have a proactive, flexible customer orientated approach along with excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to engage on all levels. Good oral and written communication skills including report writing and delivering effective presentations/demonstrations and the ability to analyse problems and create solutions are also prerequisits for the post. The salary for this role is £25,000 per annum + Company Car and other benefits.
