Treasurer / Trustee – Womens Environmental Network – London

Seeking motivated Treasurer/Trustee for unique women’s organisation.

It’s an exciting time to join Women’s Environmental Network’s (WEN) board as we look to expand the profile of our programmes.

WEN’s vision is of an environmentally sustainable world in which we have achieved gender equality. Our mission is to make the connections between women’s equality, health and well-being and environmental issues. We aim to provide women with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to take control of their health and to take action and participate equally in building an environmentally sustainable future. And we want to inspire women to become agents of change in their families, networks and society for a more equal and sustainable future.

The board at WEN plays an active role in WEN’s activities and meets monthly. Currently our main activities are local food growing training and related activities with women in two east London boroughs. We’re seeking a committed and motivated new Treasurer/Trustee with a passion for women’s equality and environmental justice who wants to use their skills and experience to make a real difference to a small but growing charity with a unique offer. In return as a trustee you will gain experience across all aspects of governing a charity and the opportunity to develop new projects and programmes.

In addition to the general responsibilities as a Trustee of WEN the overall role of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the charity’s financial affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that proper financial records and procedures are maintained.

Main duties and responsibilities include:
• Monitor the organisation’s financial resources
• Advise on the use of those resources for maximum advantage
• Liaise with (and some supervision of) staff who deal with financial matters
• Oversee WEN budgets
• Evaluate financial reports prepared by staff and present at Board meetings

The potential Treasurer will meet monthly for board meetings, and occasionally for finance committee meetings. Most meetings are 1.5-2 hours duration. There will also be a few hours per month ad hoc as part of the general trustee role, either face to face or via email.
