Communications Officer (Maternity Cover 9-12 months) – Royal Yachting Association – Hamble

Job Description

The aim of the Royal Yachting Association’s Sport Development department is to increase regular participation in sailing and windsurfing. In order to do so, we need to improve the profile of boating. We are therefore seeking an enthusiastic, organised and flexible Communications Officer to raise the external profile of the RYA and our participation programmes via targeted communications to promote programmes, events or activities and drive either custom, attendance or participation.

Key accountabilities will include acting as Press Office spokesperson, responding to media enquiries, writing and distributing news releases as well as articles for marine media, the RYA website, RYA magazine and other publications. The role holder may also be required to organise events including press conferences and media days and to support colleagues and supervise the production of publicity brochures, handouts, promotional videos, photographs and multi media.

The successful applicant for this varied role will be a good communicator at all levels, with the ability to work on their own initiative and to prioritise workload. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrable experience in a similar role. An interest in sailing, windsurfing or other sports and an understanding of voluntary clubs would be an advantage, but is not essential. There may be an occasional requirement to attend promotional events outside normal office hours.
