Reporter – Sputnik News UK – London

Our mission is to tell the untold: digging deep to bring to our audience unreported issues and stories, as well as angles and context that are missed by other media.

We are looking for a full-time professional reporter to join our team in London.  This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a news agency based in the British capital, where we will give an alternative perspective on the news affecting people’s lives in the UK.

Role Responsibility

The journalist will comment on developments across the UK; from London and other locations if required by the editors.  In addition, the successful candidate will provide timely, expert and authoritative multimedia news coverage and analysis across Sputnik UK outlets.

Reporting on all aspects of political, commercial, economic, social and cultural life in the UK, the journalist will keep abreast of relevant news topics and current and future events. The reporter should alert editors to breaking news and be prepared to file accurate and spontaneous reports.  Researching, preparing and presenting interviews, discussions and analysis will be central to the role.

As part of our busy multi-platform journalistic team, the candidate shall report to the Senior Producer / Desk Editor as and when required. This role is focused on radio with some contribution to online content. Therefore material will need to be compiled quickly and accurately into a style suited to radio and online journalism.

Flexibility is critical to this position as the successful candidate will be required to work on a shift basis, including nights, weekends and public holidays.  The ability to work flexibly using a range of multi-media is paramount. The reporter may also be required to travel within the target region for assignments and training.

We are therefore seeking an experienced broadcast journalist with a good track record of generating original stories. These stories and ideas should then be transformed into compelling and creative news. Particularly of interest is someone who has experience of leading their own radio news/discussion programmes.

The Ideal Candidate

In addition to a strong understanding of UK politics and society, the candidate should also demonstrate innovative and creative approaches to bring Sputnik to a wider audience.

The successful candidate will be able to write and broadcast in an engaging manner and demonstrate awareness of the local media market and their listener base. Furthermore, he or she should have the confidence and tenacity to pursue information, overcome obstacles and pitch ideas to senior colleagues.

A real on-air authority, critical ear and an appreciation of what makes compelling, live radio are qualities we are looking for. Some experience of both live studio production and field reporting is essential, as is the following:

Other European languages
